Jobs and the Economy

There is a lot of work that needs to be done in Eastern and Southeastern Ohio to fix our economy and to bring more and better paying jobs here. In fact, the four counties with the highest unemployment rate in Ohio are in right here and all ten Counties in this senate district have an unemployment rate above both the State and National averages. As a small business owner, Frank Hoagland has created steady full-time jobs that provide a wage that can raise a family. Frank knows the obstacles holding small business owners back and he'll fight to eliminate those obstacles and make it as easy as possible for individuals to find good paying work in the region.

Safe Schools

Everyday countless parents in across Eastern and Southeastern Ohio send their children off to school to learn, make friends, and to grow as a person. Yet, many would be surprised to find out that Ohio has led the nation in the number of violent threats made against a K-12 school and that not every school is well prepared for emergency situations like fires, tornados, or a school shooter.  To address this problem, Frank will work with local school districts and the State to create effective guidelines to keep students safer while at school, which are easy for teachers and administrators to implement while maintaining each local school board’s final decision making authority.

War on Drugs

Frank Hoagland has literally served on the frontline of the war on drugs. As a Navy SEAL nearly 30 years ago he served in South America. While there, Frank met a woman who told me that as long as people use drugs, there will be drug dealers. Those would continue to influence Frank's thinking. To prevent another 3,000 Ohioans from dying from a drug overdose this year, Frank believes we must reduce the number of drug users in our State and we start doing that by connecting people with opportunities that give their life a purpose. Whether it’s a job or more school, once we give people’s lives a purpose again, we can reduce the number of drug deaths in our State. Frank also support expanding First Responders access to life-saving antidotes for on-scene treatment, saving precious time treating overdose patients. Finally, Frank believes in stiff penalties for drug dealers, because their deliberate actions cause intense suffering for individuals who are battling the disease of addiction.

Our region is currently suffering the effects of an outdated infrastructure system that was designed for transportation demands that are very different from the needs of today. We must improve our roads to allow for quicker more efficient travel in rural Eastern and Southeastern Ohio. We must also address the information superhighway. Technology infrastructure is vital to the socio-economic well-being of residents. Improving our infrastructure will help the region be more competitive in attracting jobs. We have the work force. We have the quality of life. With infrastructure improvements, companies will want to locate here. To address these needs, Frank will work with colleagues in Columbus and at the national level to ensure our region is a priority for infrastructure improvements.
